Valpecula

The constellation Valpecula (sometimes spelled Vulpecula) was named by Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in 1687. It contains relatively dim stars and has no known legends. It is notable however for containing the conspicuous Dumb-bell Nebula, classified as a planetary nebula. When Hevelius first named this constellation he called it Valpecula cum Anser, Fox with Goose. He placed it in the sky next to two other hunting animals, the eagle (Aquilla) and the vulture (Lyra).
